Warning Light (Diesel engine only)
If the light is on, wait to start the engine. The glow plugs are heating. When it goes off, then start the engine. If the light remains on after the engine is running, there is an electrical problem. It is safe to drive your car, but visit an auto service soon.
Usual problems: bad glowplug, bad electrical connection, failure in electronics, low battery.
Diesel engines do not use a spark. Instead, fuel mist is sprayed into the cylinder, and a glow plug (heating device) is used to aid starting diesel engines. The heat generated by the glow plugs is directed into the cylinders and serves to warm the engine when it’s cold. To start the engine easily, use a winter-grade diesel fuel.
